Drake Templar. A simple yet effective disguise in this new world and a little more ambiguous than spelling his name backyards, and yet his true nature still apparent to any who could put the pieces together. Hidden in plain sight before the eyes of humanity. Had you told him that one day he'd be sitting in an office drinking coffee he would've laughed in your face. The same cruel laugh he gave so many of his enemies before slicing them open, but now? It was par for the course.
Dracula sat behind his desk in a black suit and tie with a cup of coffee on his desk. He didn't always drink it. It was more or less there for the illusion that a living a man worked here. The hour was still early and the sun yet to rise into the sky. For now his powers remained lingering however weakly, but he was still stronger than twenty men. Many wouldn't have thought that the great Count Dracula would rule in a place many considered to be a waste of time, and that was exactly why he chose it.
His fingers tapped across the metal desk in front of him as he waited for Sarah Cobb to arrive. Counting down the seconds from when he first called her in to when she would arrive. The table was metal instead of wood for one very simple reason. If you couldn't figure it out then I won't bother explaining it to you. The man leaned back in his chair and placed his hands in his lap. Continuing to stare at the wall long after the door to the office opened. Not like he needed to look. The scent was the same as it's always been.
"You're late."

"Sorry. The Coltons like to yammer."
So she was a few seconds late. Not everyone had super speed to make it on time all the time. Sarah approached the desk and laid out a black paper folder that the Mayor requested a little over a hour and a half ago. They contained a list of names of survivors of the earthquake. The natural disaster that was still being felt around the city.
"Here's the file you ordered. Anything else I can do for you?"

"I'm not interested in your excuses."
Dracula took the paper folder and began to flip through it. Each name was accompanied by a photo ID and brief description of them and where they lived. Gaia was a woman in stature and as far as the fragrance of her scent goes, so Dracula focused on the women in the folder.
"You can close the door."
Jacobs caught the vampire's eye as he glanced over the picture of a young woman with long red hair and emerald green eyes. Pretty. He laid the opened folder on the desk and turned it around so his secretary could see.
"Relative of yours?"

Sarah knew better than to talk back by now. She merely nodded and closed the door behind her so her co-workers couldn't listen in. Of course, they could always lean in against the door, but none of them were crazy enough to do that. Even masquerading as a human politician Dracula was still the most terrifying thing in Kansas City. By the time she turned back around she saw the picture of her sister n law staring her in the face.
"Younger sister to my husband. We haven't exactly been on speaking terms since the separation."

"I see."
Dracula resumed his search of the files for any other likely candidate in the Gaia case. He couldn't move against her because the people had latched onto her as a symbol of hope, but it always helped provide a certain amount of leverage when you knew something about your enemy that they didn't know about you. He stopped on the page of hospital visits only moments after the incident.
"Says here your sister-in-law never checked in at the hospital. Was she injured?"

"Like I said, we're not on speaking terms. Their family isn't exactly one who can afford many hospital visits, so who knows?"
It didn't take Sarah long to figure out where Dracula was driving at. The thought of it was enough to make her laugh if she wasn't in his presence.
"You don't think she's Gaia, do you? She's a game journalist. That's the lowest form of journalism."

Dracula paid little attention to Sarah's dismissal by the simple fact the truth might have been too underwhelming for her to accept. He leaned back in his chair and looked at her.
"What do you see when you look at me?"
He kept his silence to await her answer before proceeding, "You see a man. A man who wrapped the general public around his finger on pretty words and empty promises. A man who was once the most vicious Voivode of Wallachia in history, killing off more men than all of God's plagues combined. And here he stands in a city with a population of 470,800 people which greatest attraction are its superheroes and the Medusa head sitting in the museum. Would you believe that such a man could be in front of you today?"

Sarah gave his question some thought, looking for the right words to answer with before a smile stretched her lips.
"A man of many talents."
Death, destruction, seduction, all of these things came on the Count Dracula resume. Sarah already led many women to their deaths all because they wanted to spend some time alone with the Mayor they thought was cute. Talk about bringing a new meaning to the words 'deadly attraction'. Sarah let the man talk, even if she could interrupt him she wouldn't. He was Mayor, he was entitled to his speeches every now and again. Politicians sure did love to hear themselves talk.
"If you'd like to snack on her I'm sure I could get her to come in as long as I didn't sign the letter. That way if Gaia suddenly vanishes we'll know."

Dracula shook his head.
"As tempting as that offer is, it is not my desire to remove such an influential figure from the city. I'll reconsider once she's ruled out of the suspects list."
Why did he want to know who Gaia was? Simple. Because this was his town. He wasn't much of a leader if he didn't know all the important factions and people that were present in his town, whether he chose to do something about them or not. Gaia was far from the only superhero in Kansas City, but she was definitely the most influential, and perhaps even the most dangerous.

"Of course, Mr. Mayor."
Sarah didn't care what happened to Tori either way. They were never on good terms even when they were speaking to each other. She was just another in-law she had to play nice with back when Tony was still with her. Now she didn't have to give two shits about him, her, or the rest of that miserable family. Good riddance.
"If you don't mind my asking, what do you desire?"

"Knowledge."
Dracula closed the paper folder and laid it back down on the desk for Sarah to pick up.
"I want you to look up all the women in these files and find out everything you can about them. Start with your in-law and work from there."
With any luck they'd be able to find out about her and some of the other superheroes making headlines in the city, or they'd find nothing at all. Just because Gaia could potentially cause an earthquake on her own didn't mean she was behind what was otherwise pegged a natural disaster.

"I'll get on that straight away."
Sarah picked up the folder and wrapped it around in both her arms.
"Such the interest in my sister n law. You always did have a thing for younger women."
If only she were twenty years younger herself. Sarah smiled towards her boss and turned to leave the office. On the way out she noticed his coffee was running on empty. Better get a refill for that before starting on the background checks.
