Nerissa felt like she existed in a small circle of people who actually enjoyed mornings. Everyone she talked to always went on about how much they sucked, but she never held that perspective. She always liked experiencing the first sighting of the sun setting the beginning of a brand new day. It was always so peaceful to watch. One of the few things that made it worth getting out of bed in her mind.
Once upon a time she was the Little Mermaid. A girl who had everything but wanted more for selfish reasons. She got her wish and it made her regret every single part of it. Just walking took a lot out of her as each step she took felt like she was walking on shattered glass. The price of admission. On the bright side, her pain threshold was ridiculously high.
Nerissa came out of the elevator into the lobby of the apartment building and headed over to the mail boxes. She stopped in front of the box that had her name tagged to the front of it and opened it. There were a couple of bills, morning newspaper, and some magazines trying to sell her something. Nerissa flipped through them examining the contents, dumping the advertisements into the trash. Money was scarce enough, she didn't need to spend any more of it.

Laura was already up and getting dressed by the time the sun came out. She had a class to teach in a couple of hours and she couldn't afford to be tardy. Laura fixed herself a cup of coffee so she could function properly and headed downstairs to get the mail. There were talks of fires, zombies, and Harry Potter wizards all over the complex after last night. Sounded like something from a horror show with a dash of fantasy. Gaia and Superwoman had managed to take care of it. At least for now. One could make a lot of money in this town if they got paid in nickesl for how many times something like this happened. The town being under attack, that is. Zombies were new.
A smile graced Laura's lips when she spotted Nerissa already downstairs getting the mail. They didn't know each other all that well, but they had a few talks here and there and she's always enjoyed them before. "Hi, Nerissa," Laura greeted, opening up her mail. "How are you today? Beautiful morning, isn't it?"

Nerissa smiled towards Laura. "Hey, Laura." The morning compliment didn't sound sarcastic so Nerissa agreed. "Yes, it's really nice outside. Did you see the sunrise?"

"I caught a glimpse of it while making my morning coffee." Laura browsed her mail and apart from a couple of bills there wasn't much there to talk about. "Hard to believe it's going on summer already."

"Wasn't it beautiful? I mean, they're always beautiful, but there was something awe-inspiring about this one in particular." Nerissa couldn't put her finger on it. It was just breathtaking to watch. Made her forget all about her troubles even if only for a little while. "Children will be out and about playing in the sun. What will you be doing?"

"It was very pretty." Laura didn't spend that much time looking at it, but she had no reason to be rude. One had to always watch what they said and did in this profession or you get parents complaining that this was someone teaching their kids and you could lose your job. "I'll be working summer school and preparing for next year."

"Oh. I thought you guys got summers off?" Nerissa was still learning a lot about how things worked on the surface. It was part of the reason she wanted to be a human in the first place. Everyday was a learning experience and there was always something new to explore. When she wasn't busy stripping or whoring herself out to pay the bills.

Laura laughed. "Don't I wish? No, contrary to popular belief we still work over the summer. There's no rest for the weary." Laura often wondered who started the rumors that teachers get to do nothing for three months straight before going back to work and who, if any, actually did get a summer vacation. She would very much like to be that person.

"I see... I don't get a lot of time off from my job either." Georgia was pretty demanding, always wanting her to come in when he wanted and she was never in any position to say no. Still, she did enjoy the time she got to spend with Faith and Lily. They were her only friends.

Laura kept her eye on the clock in the lobby. She still had plenty of time to eat and get ready. The clock was a little on the old side and often she worried that one day it would break down and nobody would care enough to come in and fix it. There was always the wristwatch she forgets she has on while wearing it. "Where do you work?"

Nerissa was quiet for a minute. It wasn't exactly the kind of thing you told your neighbors about. One was an illegal activity and the other wasn't considered a respectable profession, but she couldn't bring herself to lie. "At the Pudding and Pie." That was all she'd say unless Laura pressed the matter. She hoped she wouldn't. It wasn't a discussion she liked having.

Laura didn't need Nerissa to do anything more to catch the hint. The redhead made it obvious from the moment she asked the question. "Got ya." Time for a new topic. Current events were as good as any. "Did you hear the news? Kansas was attacked by zombies last night. It took the combined efforts of Gaia and Superwoman to put a stop to it."

"Sounds like something out of a horror story. Did they find out where the zombies came from?" Nerissa was familiar with magic enough to know that necromancy existed and that was the likely suspect in her mind. Safe to say they all would've known if a virus broke loose and people started turning into zombies overnight. Then again, it was hard to tell with how self-absorbed people were nowadays.

Laura shook her head. "Doesn't sound like it. All I know is that Gaia and Superwoman took care of them and there were powerful winds in the sky and lightning falling everywhere. The police are still investigating but I don't expect them to find much. They're still looking for the prisoners who escaped during the earthquake."

Kansas...This place appeared so peaceful and a little Dull but then again there wasn't a single dull place that had a civilian willing to spend money for Bruce's services. That and all the stories Bruce had heard on his way to this place assured him that he wouldn't be terribly bored at least. He did infact appear like he had no clue where he was supposed to be going. All he had was a small folder which gave all the details of his mission, One bag with the Ares armour, his equipment and another bag full of his clothing. He wore a dark suit with matching pants and no tie , his sleeves were folded up to his elboes and a classic golden watch dangled aimlessly attached to his shirt in an old school fashion. Bruce's flight had arrived quite early in the morning and most of the town was still asleep which only proved to benefit him. There was no traffic, no Large crowds to obscure him from seeing the sights during the taxi ride to the apartment complex and most importatly He hadn't seen any of the fabled Kansas Zombies, although that would have been pretty interesting. He had been on missions all over the world but never had he seen a real Zombie.
The taxi finally dropped him off infront of the apartment complex Bruce was told he would stay in until his mission was done. Bruce quickly paid up, Took his bags and walked in. Of course he only ended up aimlessly wondering around carrying his keys and looking for a room with the number that corresponded to the number on his keys. It wasn't too long before he noticed two ladies speaking near what looked like mail boxes. He walked towards them before clearing his throat, Bruce tried his best to hide his british accent. "greetings Ladies. terribly sorry for being a bother in the morning but I'm afraid I'm a tad bit lost. Would any of you know where room number 301 is?" Bruce couldn't wait to get some sleep then begin planning out his mission which would need the schematics of the city Hall.
